The story behind the brand

People are sometimes a bit baffled by the name Creative Coffee Bean. Today I want to share with you where the name and the concept behind the brand comes from. For those who know me well, it is instantly clear. But for those who don’t know me yet, here it is.

Before I started the brand

I was still working at me 9-5 job, feeling like my soul was getting sucked dry in the process. Not that it was a bad job, or place, or even bad people. Just feeling like a bird in a cage, not being able to live the life I believed I was supposed to live.

The only one who could change it was me. I made the decision that I will do freelance work on the side until I have enough saved up to quit my job and start my own business. And like any good goal, I even set a time frame for myself to ensure that I reach it and don’t get stuck procrastinating on less important things.

Finding the brand inspiration

Some of my good colleagues and friends knew my intentions. Like a typical designer, I knew how important branding is. That the branding should be about me, my passions, and how I see the design process, but like they say “the shoemakers’ kids usually don’t have shoes”.

I was stuck. Should I use my own name? But somehow it didn’t feel right. I wanted it to be about me, be different, and be something that makes people wonder.

One day as per usual, I was at the coffee machine. Someplace I visited waaaaay too much (or was it?) I think coffee is a prerequisite for graphic designers! On my way back to my desk, one of my colleagues said that she will always associate me with good coffee.

Then it hit me! I do love coffee and I am a coffee snob! No shame in admitting it! But how to connect the dots was still a bit of a puzzle. I pulled out my trusty morphological matrix to help me with pinning down the ideal concept for my brand.

Eureka!

I ended up with my own mathematical equation for my business

COFFEE + ME = CREATIVITY

Coffee stimulates my brain and helps me to come up with creative solutions to design, marketing, and communication problems. A perfect brew for my branding problem. Hence the name Creative Coffee Bean came to life.
